No Stress Study: Study Skills Program
The Stress-Free Study Program aims to help students efficiently manage their learning using certain executive functioning skills and other areas of cognition. This program is focused on assisting students to identify their ideal learning style and smart study methods for each subject. With the small group size, students will benefit from 1:1 support as well as peer support.
The core focus of the program is to offer an alternative to traditional tutoring support by developing personal strategies to be applied across year groups and subjects. Our occupational therapists have had past-experience in tutoring and have tailored this program to enable student independence and capability in their study.
Some common study difficulties include:
- Starting and finishing assignments on time
- Remembering to bring homework / textbooks / resources home
- Planning on how to study for a test
- Managing assessment anxiety
This program focuses on increasing efficiency of executive functioning skills such as:
- Working memory
- Metacognition (ability to plan, monitor and assess your own actions)
- Sustained attention (staying on task)
- Flexible thinking
- Task initiation
- Time management (e.g planning, organisation, prioritising)
This program is designed for students in grade 7 or 8 or for those who are having difficulties completing school work, typically aged between 11-14. The occupational therapist will come to the school and the program runs over a full term with 60-minute sessions each week. There are 6-8 students per session.
