Happy Faces: Yoga Classes for Townsville Kids


Occupational therapy and yoga is a powerful mix. Research shows that yoga cultivates mind-body awareness, self-regulation and physical fitness. Yoga assists with children’s behaviour, and mental and physical health, leading to increased resilience, academic outcomes, social effectiveness and general school performance.


The Happy Faces Yoga Program is designed to expose your child to the science of body, mind and self-regulation. The yoga classes is tailored to actively teach Townsville kids the principles of yoga postures, deep breathing, yoga philosophy, deep relaxation, mindfulness and meditation. Through the program, children will develop resilience and coping strategies for everyday life.

We are excited to be partnering with the Good Shepherd Home to hold the classes onsite which also gives us access to the beautiful Palmetum Botanical Gardens. Some of the classes are held in the Gardens which is a great way for children to see nature in a different light using mindfulness techniques.

We also facilitate Happy Faces Yoga for Kids at schools and early childhood centres. We have classes for 4-6 year olds and 7-12 year olds.  

We run 5-week programs and children can continue their journey with us for as long as they wish. They will get something new out of each session and we encourage each child to participate in the full 5-week program.

How Yoga Keeps Kids Calm and Centered

Our yoga classes have helped countless kids in Townsville connect with their spirit while building a strong, agile body. It teaches children breathing techniques that keep them calm. Our classes also teach to practice mindfulness — a skill they’ll find useful for the rest of their lives.

Your child will also:

  • Develop concentration skills – Children will learn how to clear their minds and focus on their breathing. They will practice staying in focus, which will make them more effective in any task beyond the yoga mats.
  • Increase flexibility – Stretching and holding yoga poses build muscle endurance and develop balance. Our yoga classes increase a child’s range of motion, making them more effective players and dancers. They’ll be more agile as they play with their friends or accomplish little household tasks.
  • Cope with Stress – Our yoga classes increase the children’s awareness of the way they breathe, which will help them relax their bodies. They will discover how regulating their breath to manage stressful situations.
