Disability

[feature-block]

We work with children, youth and adults with a variety of disabilities, both physical and cognitive, to help them do what they want and need to do each day. The ability to manage daily activities has a positive impact on an individual’s wellbeing and our role is to help children and adults find their strengths.

Access Therapy Services is a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered service provider. If you have not been approved for NDIS funding, we can help you navigate the system and provide documentation and therapist reports to support your application.

The occupational therapist will spend time completing a needs assessment and assist in identifying your personal goals, to enhance your ability to engage in your chosen activities or occupations. We may ask for the input of family and carers to fully understand how to best support you to reach your full potential.

Goals may include being able to work, live independently, socialise with others, access the community or engage in hobbies. Occupational therapy can assist with:

  • Dressing
  • Personal care
  • Home modifications
  • Organisational skills – including study, developing a routine
  • Task simplification or modification
  • Energy conservation
  • Recommendations for the prescription of assistive technology
  • Meal preparation and eating
  • Rest and sleep hygiene
  • Sensory assessment and therapy
  • Community access
  • Social and communication skills
  • Life skills – money management, shopping, laundry, household tasks
  • Self-calming strategies, anxiety management

Working with People with a Disability

We provide assistance in people’s homes and schools through equipment prescription, home modifications, goal setting and planning, accessibility, environmental assessments or through one-on-one support. We also support people to participate in their local community through socialisation, sports and leisure and by supporting people to reach their goals. We can also conduct functional assessments and provide recommendations and reports to support future NDIS plans.

We offer a FREE 15 minute appointment with an occupational therapist to discuss NDIS goals and needs or to just talk about what an occupational therapist can do for your individual situation.

If you would like more information or for someone to contact you please send us a message.

Working with Carers, Families, Support Workers and Health Professionals

For us to provide the best quality care and support to the people that we work with, it is vital that we work collaboratively and holistically with the person and their support crew. We encourage and facilitate an open line of communication with families, health professionals and other organisations to ensure that we are all working with each other to meet the person’s goals and dreams.

We use a variety of different products during therapy with our clients, many of which are available to purchase through our online shop, including tips on HOW and WHY we use them.

We offer a wide range of education, training and professional development options for health professionals, disability support workers, families and carers. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE

Do I Need a Referral?

If you are an NDIS participant then we can work with you under that funding plan and if you are self-managed then you can contact us directly to make an appointment. If you would like to make an appointment for a free 15-minute consultation with an OT BOOK ME IN

If you are working with a support co-ordinator then you can ask them to send us a referral and someone will contact you to organise a suitable time to meet with you.

You don’t have to be funded under the NDIS to see an OT so if you would like to make an appointment for a free 15 minute consultation with an OT or any other appointment or booking BOOK ME IN. If you are not eligible for any funding assistance, then we can work with you as a private client. If you have private health insurance, and depending on your type of cover, then there may be a rebate that you can claim through your insurer. Please check with your individual health fund for specific details about what your fund offers.
