Working With Older People

Occupational therapists provide support and assistance to older people for them to remain at home for as long as possible and to continue to be as independent and as safe as possible. We work with other organisations and tradesmen to facilitate home modifications and prescribe equipment which can assist and support a person’s safety and independence at home and in the community. We also work closely with other community organisations to ensure people have access to the maximum amount of services available to them.

We are passionate about sharing our knowledge of equipment and products to help people remain as safe and as independent as possible at home and in their community. We regularly recommend these products and many of them are available to purchase through our online shop, including tips on HOW and WHY we use them.

Dementia Rehabilitation

Evidence supports the effectiveness of interventions in conjunction with prescribed medications for treating common symptoms of dementia (e.g. agitation, depression and aggression) to improve a person’s quality of life. Several of our occupational therapists have a special interest in Dementia rehabilitation models and provide services using the Montessori Method for Dementia and also Timeslips.

If you would like more information on any of our Dementia rehabilitation services or would like someone to contact you please send us a message.

Working with Health Professionals, Aged Support Workers and Specialists

For us to provide the best quality care and support to the older people that we work with, it is vital that we work closely and collaboratively with other health professionals and organisations involved in their care. It is essential that everyone is aware of each other’s involvement and the overarching goals, and the lines of communication are open.

We understand that applying for funding can be overwhelming, so we can assist with My Aged Care referrals and Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) applications to ensure that people have access to the maximum amount of services that they are eligible for.

We offer a wide range of education, training and professional development options for health professionals, anyone working in the aged sector, carers and families. Please click here to find out more information.

Working with Families and Carers

Families and carers are the glue that keeps everyone together so we know how important it is for us to work with everyone involved. Families and carers are often under a lot of stress and pressure so we try to alleviate some of that and work with them so they feel equipped to provide support to their loved one.

If you would like more information on any of our services or would like someone to contact you please send us a message. For a free 15 minute consultation with an OT or any other appointment or booking, head over to our Booking Request Page.

We offer a range of education and training options for carers and families as well as free resources to download. Please click here to find out more information.

Do I Need A Referral?

If you are over 65 then you will be eligible for a My Aged Care assessment and can go to https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/ to make an appointment for an assessment. My Aged Care is a Government portal that supports people over the age of 65 with funding to support them to stay at home for as long as possible. You can request a referral to Access Therapy Services when you speak to, or meet with, an assessor.

If you are already connected to a community agency such as Anglicare, Bolton Clarke, Right at Home or Ozcare, for example, then you can speak to your case manager about getting a referral to Access Therapy Services.

If you are a Veteran with a Department of Veterans Affairs Gold or White card, then you can speak to your GP about getting a D904 referral sent to us and we will contact you once we have received it to make an appointment.

There is a lot of funding available to assist people over the age of 65 so if you are unsure of what you might be entitled to, would like more information on any of our services or would like someone to contact you please send us a message.
